MONOLITH IN WATER BY JEAN NOUVEL
ASTON MARTIN V8 Vantage · PHOTOGRAPHY BY René Staud
The MONOLITH, Lake Murten, Switzerland. An island made from 4.000 tonnes of steel and concrete. Thirtyfour metres high, an archaic monument in a skin of corroded steel sheets. Approach it and venture into a sea of shifting perceptions: three illusory worlds open up within the cube. A magical place in strong contrast to the here and now.
JEAN NOUVEL was born in Fumel, France in 1945. He began individual design work in 1970 and went on to graduate from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1972. Nouvel became the vicepresident of the Institut Français d‘Architecture in 1991, and has been an Honorary fellow of the American Institute of Architects since 1993. Nouvel has received a number of prestigious awards for his work.
