A.E.I.O.U. BY ANSELM KIEFER
ASTON MARTIN AR1 · PHOTOGRAPHY BY René Staud
A.E.I.O.U. is an installation in Salzburg‘s Furtwänglerpark. The work comprises a shelf containing 60 lead books - a metaphor symbolising past and future, knowledge and sensation - and the paintings “Zigeunerlager“ (“Gipsy Camp“) and “Wüstenzelt“ (“Desert Tent“) inspired by Ingeborg Bachmann. Kiefer‘s work references our sensibility and knowledge, creating a new reality. A Salzburg Foundation project.
Anselm Kiefer was born in Donaueschingen, Germany, in 1945. He studied art academics in Karlsruhe (under Horst Antes) and Düsseldorf (under Joseph Beuys). Anselm Kiefer currently lives and works in Barjac, France. Of the younger German painters to emerge in recent decades, he is the one who made the greatest impression on international audiences. He works consistently balances the duality of visually powerful imagery and intellectually critical analysis.
